BIBLE STUDY - MESSIANIC PROPHECIES

MESSIANIC PROPHESIES

Crucifixion and Death

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers. He will crush your head, and you will strike His heel. (Genesis 3:15)

Anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him. Whether an alien or native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death. (Leviticus 24:16)

The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to Him. (Deuteronomy 18:15)

O LORD God, do not reject your anointed one. Remember the great love promised to David your servant.

(2 Chronicles 6:42)

Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against His Anointed One. (Psalm 2:1-2)

You will not abandon me to the grave. You will not let your Holy One see decay. (Psalm 16:10)

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? (Psalm 22:1)

I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people. They hurl insults, shaking their heads. All who see me mock me, saying, “He trusts in the LORD. Let the LORD rescue Him”

(Psalm 22:6-8)

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax and has melted away within me. My strength is dried up, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You lay me in the dust of death. A band of evil men has encircled me. They have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones. People stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing. (Psalm 22:14-18)

The poor will eat and be satisfied. They who seek the LORD will praise Him! (Psalm 22:26)

Into your hands I commit my spirit. (Psalm 31:5)

He protects all His bones. Not one of them will be broken. (Psalm 34:20)

All my enemies whisper together against me. They imagine the worst for me. (Psalm 41:7)

Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

(Psalm 41:9)

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God. I will praise him, my Savior and my God. (Psalm 43:5)

Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head. Many are my enemies without cause. They seek to destroy me. (Psalm 69:4)

They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. Those who sit at the gate mock me. I am the song of the drunkards. (Psalm 69:12 and 21)

He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces. The LORD has spoken. (Isaiah 25:8)

Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight. I will put my Spirit on Him. He will bring justice to the nations. (Isaiah 42:1)

He will not shout or cry out, or raise His voice in the streets. A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out. In faithfulness He will bring forth justice. (Isaiah 42:2-3)

I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard. I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting. (Isaiah 50:6)

Many were appalled at Him--His appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man. His form was marred beyond human likeness. (Isaiah 52:14)

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows. We considered Him stricken by God, smitten by Him, and afflicted. The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. He was pierced for our transgressions. (Isaiah 53:3-5)

The LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. By oppression and judgment He was taken away. He was cut off from the land of the living. For the transgression of my people He was stricken. He was assigned a grave with the wicked and with the rich. He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth. As a sheep before her shearers is silent, so He did not open His mouth. He was crushed for our iniquities. Yet it was the LORD's will to crush Him and cause Him to suffer and make His life a guilt offering.

(Isaiah 53:6-10)

He poured out His life unto death. He was numbered with the transgressors. He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:12)

These I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar. My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations. (Isaiah 56:7)

On Monday of Holy Week, Jesus entered the temple area to teach the people. He read scripture with the other rabbis when it was His turn.

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn. (Isaiah 61:1-2)

This is what the LORD says: ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. (Jeremiah 6:16)

Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look around and see. Is any suffering like my suffering that was inflicted on me, that the LORD brought on me?  (Lamentations 1:12)

I will ransom them from the power of the grave. I will redeem them from death. Where, O death, are your plagues? Where, O grave, is your sting? (Hosea 13:14)

Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (Zechariah 9:9)

I told them, "If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it." So they paid me thirty pieces of silver. And the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potter"--the handsome price at which they priced me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD to the potter.”

(Zechariah 11:12-13)

They will look on me, the one they have pierced. They will mourn for me as one mourns for an only child. They will grieve bitterly for Him as one grieves for a firstborn son. (Zechariah 12:10)
